Cookies are not the only technology covered
The rules applying to cookies can also apply to other technologies that store information on, or access information from, a user’s device.
Depending on how a website is built, these can include:

How Vornant uses these technologies
Vornant keeps its use of browser storage and similar technologies deliberately limited.
Our review of the deployed public website found no cookies being set during ordinary browsing. The website currently uses browser local storage to remember a visitor’s selected light or dark appearance preference.
Vornant does not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking or technologies intended to build individual visitor profiles.
Vornant’s approach
We only introduce browser storage or measurement technology where there is a clear purpose for doing so. Technologies that are not necessary or useful to the operation and improvement of the website are not deployed simply because they are available.

Necessary website technologies
The public Vornant website does not currently require a first-party session cookie for ordinary browsing. It does not provide user accounts, authentication or other functionality that requires a persistent website session.
The website is delivered using Cloudflare infrastructure. Where infrastructure or security technology changes in a way that affects browser storage, this policy and the technology inventory below will be reviewed.

Analytics and statistical information
Vornant uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand, at an aggregate level, how the website is used and how it performs for visitors.
This can include information such as page views, referring websites, browser or device characteristics and website performance metrics. Vornant uses this information to understand website usage, identify technical issues and improve the website.
Cloudflare states that Web Analytics does not use cookies or browser local storage to collect usage metrics and does not fingerprint individuals for analytics purposes.
Vornant does not use this analytics information for advertising, individual profiling or cross-site tracking.
You can object to this analytics measurement at any time using the control below.

Preferences and appearance
Vornant allows visitors to choose between light and dark appearance modes.
When you select an appearance mode, Vornant stores a value namedvornant-theme in your browser’s local storage. Its only purpose is to remember whether you selected the light or dark theme so that the same preference can be used on later visits.
This preference is not used for analytics, advertising, tracking or identification.
The preference remains in your browser until you remove it, clear your browser’s site data or use the control below. If no stored preference exists, Vornant follows your device’s colour-scheme preference.

Third-party technologies
Vornant uses Cloudflare to deliver and protect this website.
Vornant also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to obtain aggregate website-usage and performance information. Cloudflare Web Analytics is not used by Vornant for advertising or individual visitor profiling.
If additional third-party technologies are introduced in future, Vornant will review their storage and data-handling behaviour before deployment and update this policy where necessary.

Your choices
You can remove Vornant’s saved appearance preference using the control in the Preferences and appearance section above.
You can also clear website storage using your browser settings. Doing so will remove any Vornant appearance preference stored in that browser.
Where Vornant uses analytics under the statistical purposes exception, a separate means of objecting is provided without charge.

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the technologies used by the website change, when providers or purposes change, or when applicable legal requirements are updated.
The date at the top of this page identifies the latest published version.
If the website begins using a materially different form of storage, tracking or third-party functionality, this policy and any associated choice mechanism should be reviewed before or at the time that technology is introduced.
